Our EYFS Vision and Values in Practice
At Powick CE Primary School, our EYFS curriculum is built upon our values which include compassion and respect, community, thankfulness, forgiveness and perseverance. We are committed to providing an environment where every child is valued as unique, supported to develop socially, emotionally, and academically, and encouraged to become a kind, curious, and independent learner. This foundation reflects our wider school vision to embrace learning together.
What We Offer in EYFS
Our EYFS curriculum is carefully designed to give each child the best possible start in life by focusing on:
- A Safe and Nurturing Environment: We build secure, trusting relationships so children feel safe, valued, and ready to explore their world.
- Personal, Social, and Emotional Development (PSED): Emotional literacy and resilience are key. Children learn to manage feelings, develop empathy, and build positive relationships, laying the groundwork for their future well-being.
- Communication and Language: We foster a love of language through stories, rhymes, conversations, and rich vocabulary experiences, supporting confident communication.
- Independence and Curiosity: Children are encouraged to explore, take risks, and think creatively, nurturing their natural curiosity and problem-solving skills.
- Celebration of Diversity: Our inclusive approach teaches respect for all cultures and backgrounds, helping children develop a strong sense of belonging and community.
- Foundations for Lifelong Learning: We provide a language-rich environment that supports early literacy, numeracy, and understanding of the world.
How We Deliver Our Curriculum
Our approach balances child-initiated play with adult-guided learning and high-quality interactions through the themes ‘Ourselves and our families’, ‘Journeys’ and ‘Our Wonderful World’. Practitioners create a language-rich, stimulating environment where children’s interests drive their learning. We emphasise:
- Quality First Teaching: Skilled adults model language, extend vocabulary, and guide learning through meaningful play and conversations.
- PSED at the Heart: Children develop emotional awareness and resilience through supportive relationships and guided social experiences.
- Indoor and Outdoor Learning: Both settings are used purposefully to inspire imagination and real-life learning.
- Responsive Planning: Our curriculum responds to children’s evolving interests and needs, informed by ongoing observations and assessments.
- Family Partnership: We work closely with parents to ensure consistency and inclusion, sharing progress and supporting each child’s journey.
The Impact of Our EYFS Curriculum
Our EYFS provision enables children to leave with:
