Weeks beginning 3rd and 10th October 2016
Over the last 2 weeks Year R have been learning about 2d shapes, practising letter formation, making apple crumble and having fun with their new classmates.
‘Open the Book’ is a national initiative by the Bible Society, to create the opportunity for children to hear the major stories of the Bible. The stories are delivered by a team of volunteers from local churches during our Thursday morning assembly. The story tellers act out Bible stories in an interactive, enjoyable and fun way. Each week a few children are chosen to ‘help’ tell the story.
Nov 2016 - Over the last couple of weeks as we have been enjoying learning through the topic of Space. Here is a little snap shot of what we have been up to: experimenting if the shape of the balloon affects how far the rocket travels. Creating playdough aliens to describe, exploring 3d shapes, continuing to secure our number knowledge and having fun with our friends.
30th November 2016 - Wyre Forest Trip
On the coldest day of the year we set off on a double decker bus for a fun packed day in the Wyre Forest near Bewdley. We explored the wood to learn about evergreen and deciduous trees, then warmed up inside to find out about woodland animals which we could touch! After lunch, we headed back into the forest to make homes for dormice. Our efforts were rewarded with hot chocolate, marshmallows and a story around the campfire.
Week beginning 9th January 2017
We welcomed the frosty mornings for exploring ice, the perfect start to our new topic on winter. We also enjoyed the retelling of the Gruffalo by our classmates and Mrs Prosser.
It has been a busy few weeks in Year R making gingerbread men, amazing World Book Day costumes. We have also been exploring weighing items in the Yr R area. Ms Kemili (who works in Yr 2) kindly came with us to the forest and made hot chocolate using the storm kettle.
