Guided Reading in Year 5
In the interests of giving the greatest insight into life in Year 5, I have attached the Guided Reading timetable for the next two weeks. I have chosen to do this to illustrate how the sessions are structured rather that a focus on the content (although you may notice I try to theme the each week). Every effort is made to ensure every child gets focused support from staff to work on specific learning objectives (indicated in red on the plans) and access to texts which inspire and challenge. Equally, effort is made to ensure a variety of texts are shared and that children also have the opportunity to enjoy their own reading book and practise key skills.
It has been a pleasure to have met so many supportive parents already, both on the playground and at our 'Meet the teacher' event. If you were unable to attend then the document below 'A quick guide to Year 5' is hopefully of some use to you.
Please be aware that Home Reading Diaries have been ordered and will be sent out as soon as possible.
As mentioned at our 'Meet the teacher' event, a curriculum map that outlines the broad themes for the year will be sent out (and published here) shortly along with a more detailed plan for the Autumn Term Topic. In the meantime, Year 5 are about to begin learning about the Anglo Saxons whilst sharing our key text 'Beowulf'. In Science we are focusing on Forces.
